Strange as it sounds, we may be eating but not actually feeding ourselves. To live longer and stay strong and healthy, naturopath Anastasia Zafiropoulos explains the benefits of nourishing our body with an amazingly healthy “superfood”.

When you’re unhealthy, you know it – your energy levels are low, you feel bad and your hair and skin look lacklustre. And in this hectic, fast-paced world, neglecting your health can soon lead to more serious complaints. The good news is that a little green wonder food can provide you with the pep you need, whenever you need!

Concentrated powerhouse

Spirulina is the most nutritious, concentrated wholefood known to mankind. This spiral-shaped, microscopic blue-green algae derives its energy from sunlight and water through the process of photosynthesis, and contains more betacarotene than any other wholefood. It is also the best wholefood source of gamma linolenic acid (GLA), an important fatty acid that has anti-inflammatory effects. Spirulina is also a good source of superoxide dismutase, an enzyme that protects against harmful free-radical activity.

Furthermore, spirulina is rich in B group vitamins, minerals and chlorophyll. It is an excellent source of dietary protein that contains all the essential amino acids. And while other plants have a hard cell wall, Spirulina has a soft cell wall, making it an easily digestible protein.

The best source

Tests have shown that Hawaiian Spirulina is among the best in the world. One reason for this is that Hawaiian spirulina is never hot when manufactured into tablet form, thus reducing the chance of nutritional loss. Using the “Ocean Chill” drying method, this chilling and dehumidifying allows for the elimination of oxygen from the dryer, increasing the retention of carotenoid and enzyme activity. This process protects the potency of Hawaiian Spirulina’s valuable and sensitive nutrients.

Recommended dosage

The recommended minimum amount of Hawaiian Spirulina is 3g daily – about one teaspoon of the powder form or six 500mg tablets. Conveniently, you can also take spirulina whenever you like – with, before, in between or after meals.

So try Hawaiian Spirulina for yourself. Whether you take it in tablet or powder form, you will soon feel the benefits. Abundance of energy, sparkling eyes, glowing skin and longevity may be just around the corner!
